Extensive residential alteration project at Abbington Road in London, involving removal of load-bearing walls, extension works, and garden retaining wall construction adjacent to existing Party Walls.

Our Solution

The project required a combination of temporary and permanent works:

  • Temporary works associated with the removal of load-bearing walls at lower ground floor level to create open-plan living space
  • Design of new steel frames and foundations adjacent to existing Party Walls, requiring careful consideration of the Party Wall Act
  • Design of retaining walls in the rear garden to manage level changes

Outcome

The structural design successfully delivered the client’s aspiration for open-plan living while managing the complex constraints of working adjacent to Party Walls and on a sloping site.
