Project Overview

Temporary works package at a commercial building on Princes Street in central London, enabling structural alterations and the safe operation of demolition equipment on existing reinforced concrete floors.

Key Structural Challenges

• Operating heavy demolition plant on existing RC floors without causing structural damage
• Maintaining stability of the stair core during phased alteration works
• Working within a constrained central London site with limited access and storage

Our Solution

We designed a comprehensive temporary works package including:

• Backpropping of the existing reinforced concrete floor slabs to strengthen them for demolition equipment loads
• Temporary propping of the existing stair core to maintain stability during phased removal
• Sequential methodology ensuring continuous lateral stability throughout the works

Outcome

The temporary works scheme was approved by the principal contractor and successfully implemented, enabling the structural alterations to proceed safely and on programme. All works were completed without incident.
